Rhinoplasty is one of the most requested procedures and can be done both for aesthetic and functional reasons. We do more than 100 rhinoplasty a year at Victoriakliniken and have a long experience with all kinds of noses.
The reasons behind having a rhinoplasty varies: It could be to make the nose smaller, to remove a hump or to straightened a crooked nose, lift or reduce the tip of the nose or to improve breathing through the nose.
A rhinoplasty can make great changes to the size and shape of the nose. During the consultation we will go through exactly what would you would like to change, your expectations and what result is achievable based on your nose and overall features.

Method
There is open and closed rhinoplasty approach. The technique is chosen based on the changes being made, skin quality and the surgeons preferences. At Victoriakliniken we mostly perform open rhinoplasty to get better access and control over the nose. With open rhinoplasty a small incision is made underneath the nose, discreetly in the columella. You should not be able to see the incision after 3-6 months.
Operation
A rhinoplasty at the Victoria Clinic is almost always performed as an open nose operation.
This allows the surgeon to see exactly what he is doing, which results in the bleeding being kept to a minimum.
The goal is that the swelling after the operation should go down quickly and the nose should
quickly look natural, without visible scars – a good end result with few complications simply.
During the operation, the nose is changed by reducing or building on the supporting structures
of the nose, bones and cartilage. The soft parts of the nose, including the skin, then reshape over the new shape of the supporting structures of the nose.
The operation is performed under anesthesia, which means that you are asleep and pain-free.
You can go home the same day or the day after, depending on the size of the procedure.
After Operation
The area around your eyes might be swollen and bruised after the procedure, peaking at 2-3 days after surgery and will thereafter gradually fade and go down. You will have a splint over your nose for 1 week and tape over your nose for the second week when there has been surgery to the nasal bone.
You should rest for the first few days after a rhinoplasty. Avoid exercise and any strenuous activities for the first weeks. You should also avoid sauna or leaning your head forward as it can make your blood pressure go up.
The stitches are usually removed after 6 days and you should already then be able to see an improvement with less bruising and swelling.
It will take about 12-18 months for the nose to fully heal and for when you will be able to see the final result.
